Although Malta's climate is characterised by long hot summers and comparatively little rainfall, there is a surprising abundance of attractive public gardens which can be found all over the Maltese Islands. These are full of unusual and exotic plants, some endemic to the region, others introduced by the gardens' designers over the centuries. Several of these gardens are situated on Malta's historic bastions and have the added bonus of offering visitors spectacular sea and harbour views. Others are to be found in the heart of our towns and villages and provide a green oasis of tranquility amongst the buildings.

All our public gardens can be reached by public transport. Many have cafes and kiosks for refreshments, toilet facilities and in some cases, also have children's playgrounds. Nearly all the gardens are wheelchair-friendly.
